CHULA VISTA, Calif. — November 4, 2026. Incumbent Mayor John McCann is ahead of Francisco Tamayo in the latest available unofficial Chula Vista election-results snapshot reviewed by California58. The San Diego County returns displayed by The Ballot Book list McCann with 28,245 votes (59.3%) and Tamayo with 19,383 (40.7%), a difference of 8,862 votes. These are reported returns, not a certified outcome.

Chula Vista chose between two mayoral candidates

The City of Chula Vista’s official 2026 election information confirms that McCann, the incumbent mayor, and Tamayo, a member of the Chula Vista Elementary School District board, were the candidates in the November 3 mayoral runoff. California58 earlier published candidate profiles covering McCann’s campaign and record and Tamayo’s policy proposals.

Other city contests on the ballot

The unofficial county tracker also lists Carolina Chavez at 7,630 votes versus Greg Martinez at 5,770 in City Council District 1. In District 2, Jose Preciado has 5,506 versus Angelica S. Martinez at 5,100 — a difference of 406 votes. California58 has a separate story on the council districts, which should be compared with this latest county-results snapshot.

What happens after Election Day?

The San Diego County Registrar of Voters continues the official canvass. The county has announced additional post-election results updates, and final certification is still ahead. Ballots are not completely counted merely because candidates appear to have a substantial early lead.
